Reasons to Use a Contractor to Paint Your Home

There are a lot of reasons for someone to choose a pro to paint their home. Their decision is usually made based on time constraints and final results. To guarantee a long-lasting, durable paint finish on your home, you need to hire a contractor to do it. It's a combination that means lower costs over time.

House painting, especially the exterior, requires a lot of work. This work is primarily made up of the tedious chipping, scraping, and sanding that is required to get a good surface for paint. This work requires a lot of time. Compared to the cost of materials alone, hiring a contractor appears expensive, but once the time is factored in, it's likely to seem a bargain.

Choosing a quality professional is important as well. One of the best ways to find good professional painters in naperville is to talk to your neighbors about who they've hired, especially if they recently had their home painted. Ask who they used and what they think of the pro's quality and workmanship.

The following questions should be asked: -Did the professional do quality work at a fair price?

-Were steps taken to mitigate damage of areas around the home not being painted?

-Was the professional reliable and did he or she finish on time?

-Was a written warranty offered to guarantee the work?

A good professional will pass all four questions with flying colors. A good pro will not only be bonded and insured against any damage that might be caused during the painting of your home, but will also take steps to avoid causing that damage whenever possible. A pro is also going to be on time (barring unforeseen and uncontrollable problems, of course) and will provide a written warranty for at least half of the expected lifetime of the paint used.

Once you have found a professional, contact him or her and have them do an estimate. Then contact 3 or 4 of their competitors and ask for quotes from them as well. More than likely, the price will be fair. Ask questions during the estimate process to find out about included warranties and expected time frames for work. Ask whether the paint is included and what type it will be – get specific brand names so you can do more research. Most contractors will include paint in their estimate and if that's the case, be sure they're quoting the highest-quality available.

Once the job begins, try to stay involved without getting in the painter's way. Offer help, but don't attempt to help unless asked to do so. You can make the offer to include your labor as part of the deal, but do not be surprised if the price quoted doesn't change much. These offers often make professionals leery, and usually for good reason. It is a better idea to only offer help when asked, such as handing tools up a scaffold or bringing lunch or refreshments as a courtesy. Don't be surprised if your pro refuses hands-on help due to insurance or warranty requirements. You should respect that.

Once you have hired a pro, though, you'll understand why it was a great decision. Nothing beats a quality job done by someone who really knows their business.
